Welcome to Cumbria Hyperbaric Knowledge Development

Over the past number of years, even before the Cumbria Hyperbaric brand came into being in 2019, we were working on training, knowledge development and operational material to help those in the industry get their organisations off the ground and into the business of helping people. After all, we all do this, among other reasons, for the benefit of others. We strive to be healers first, and health and safety officers second. Or certainly we do. Over the years, our principal, Hayden, who is a contracted subject matter expert (SME), has spent a major part of his career involved in health and safety as well as setting up of departments and businesses. This includes knowledge development in the chosen subject as well as practical day to day tips and suggestions that help in the smooth start-up and management of a new service.

With this in mind, we have put together a series of introductory, basic, foundation, intermediate and supervisor level "training courses”, ( Ideally, to be competed in that order for best results). Thee are rather a compilation of knowledge development and working material, for those who have perhaps just bought a chamber, or those who have just joined an existing organisation and wish to be brought up to speed on a range of topics likely to come up, and even those who have been operating for a while who wish to review their operating material and knowledge base. The material is useful to wellness practitioners as well as medical personnel. Annual review is always seen as pro-active and refreshers are common in this line of work.

Prices include ongoing support way beyond the completion of a program. Hayden remains available for up to a year or even more for questions and answers and general assistance, theoretical or technical.

1 - Introduction to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) & Overview

This introductory overview to hyperbaric oxygen therapy is intended to serve as an introduction to a variety of subject that may be encountered in a wellness clinical setting. The material is not a chamber operator course, but rather an overview of the mechanisms and considerations of the therapy itself. The material will introduce candidates to the underlying mechanics of HBOT and some of the benefits that can be derived from receiving this therapy. The material is equally valid for medical clinical settings and candidates are encouraged to complete all modules. Notwithstanding that, home users may find it more suitable to continue with the basic operator module first, where professional HBOT practitioners may wish to cross directly to the foundation level which contains all of the work included in the basic module.

2 - Basic Supervised Wellness Hyperbaric Chamber Operator 2 ata. (Theory)

This material will give you a head start on your learning of how to operate wellness therapy hyperbaric chambers up to 2 atmospheres absolute. It will lay the groundwork for further development in the Foundation Level Material. This material will assist you in developing the necessary knowledge and skills to begin working in a clinical type environment under the supervision of a more experienced and qualified operator. 3 - Foundation Level Complementary Therapy Wellness Chamber Operator (Theory) 2 ata

Foundation Level Material is suitable for all candidates however is designed with those in a clinical setting in mind, who are beginning to work in an unsupervised capacity in terms of direct supervision. It builds on previous lessons and provides knowledge development commensurate with an entry level professional provider level for those offering HBOT services. 4 - Intermediate Chamber Operator for Wellness and Other Applications (Theory)

Building on the foundation level module this module recaps some topics and takes a deeper dive into how this information is relevant and how it can be applied to a variety of scenarios on a day to day basis. Topics such as physics affect more than just bodily manifestations of pressure, and extend to the effective functioning of chambers and allied equipment as well as equipment performance. This module will further the application of topics covered in previous modules and prepare candidates for the supervisor level.

5 - Hyperbaric Chamber Operations Supervisor Level

The final module in the series this module covers matters related to management and information HBOT unit managers should know. It is assumed by this level, that learners already have a thorough understanding of topics which have been previously covered and there is no repetition of these topics. It is essential to have completed the foundation and intermediate levels and is recommended to have also completed the introduction and basic operator levels.

Introduction and Overview

In the Introduction & Overview we begin to explore new topics which serve as a solid base on which to build knowledge as we progress. This module is intended as an entry level starting point for both home users and clinical users alike (medical or wellness).


This module contains a reference section detailing all source materials used and this can prove invaluable. It also contains a section on oxygen toxicity which is not covered again in further modules until supervisor level.

Basic Level

The Basic Wellness Operator module is designed for employers to adequately prepare new staff for their role. The Basic Level is intended for new staff as an introduction to the field to enable them work in a supervised capacity while they develop further. Newcomers to the field would benefit most from this module ahead of enrolling for the Foundation Level as it gradually build knowledge based on previous lessons.





Foundation Level

The foundation level material offers learners the opportunity to ease into a fairly wide range of topics that are useful in day to day operations. These range from legal considerations through health and safety, as well as knowledge development of the therapy itself. This module includes and repeats all of the work covered in the basic level.

Candidates who intend to complete the Foundation Level can do so without necessarily completing the Basic Level first. Although the repetition is deliberate as it facilitates better learning outcomes and it is still a good idea to complete all modules and slowly build knowledge. The Foundation Level is intended to provide workers who may be required to work without direct supervision the tools and knowledge to operate in a safe and effective manner. This module leads on to the Intermediate and Supervisor levels yet to be published.
